Ohio Motorcyclist For Children

The Legacy:
James Underwood

James UnderwoodJames B. Underwood was principal trumpet player for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra from 1988 through 2006.

Jim was also a motorcyclist. In 1996, he decided to build his own bike, from the wheels up. But the project stalled in 2002 when Underwood was diagnosed with cancer.

In August, 2006 Jim died. His unfinished motorcycle sat in the living room for another four years. Jim's wife Marti says, “I kept thinking I would find a way for that project to mean something for Jim. I learned that selling it for parts would raise very little money, and I couldn't find anyone interested in finishing the project.”

Then Marti met Mark Beckner, the owner of Beckner's House of Rides.

Legacy Bike

Fall is a great time to ride in Ohio and what better way to hit the road then on a scarlet and grey custom ride?

You could be the envy of the Buckeye nation. The Legacy Bike is painted with the actual paint used on OSU football helmets, courtesy of Riddell. It also features a football pigskin seat , courtesy of Rawlings. And, as if that's not enough, it will be autographed by Archie Griffin and carry his #45.

This one of a kind custom bike can't be bought but you could be lucky enough to win it. Ohio Motorcyclist For Children, with the help of Beckner's House of Rides, is raffling off this one of a kind motorcycle to raise funds for Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase during displays of the motorcycle at OSU home games and at businesses throughout central Ohio. We will post a complete list of display dates and times shortly.

Raffle tickets are $25 each or five for $100. The drawing will take place on the occasion of the OSU/Michigan game, November 27, 2010.

The winner of the motorcycle is responsible for all applicable taxes, and will be required to sign a release for use of his or her name and likeness to be used in charitable promotions by OhioMotorcyclists for Children.

The Legacy Bike Build

Jamie WilsonThe Legacy bike is being finished by Jamie Wilson, a talented custom bike builder at Beckner's House of Rides, in Newark, Ohio.

It is an especially meaningful project for Wilson, because his own father, Richard, is a victim of cancer and currently under treatment at OSUCCC-James.

This will be the second time Wilson has contributed his time and talent to the work of Ohio Motorcyclists for Children. He was principal builder of a gorgeous motorcycle that was raffled at Roll On Columbus on May 22, 2010 to raise funds for Nationwide Children's Hospital.
